Salim for Heaton, Lostock & Chew Moor 2026
Heaton, Lostock and Chew Moor Labour Party members have chosen local resident Salim Qureshi to be their candidate in the 2026 local elections being held on May 7th.
Salim lives close to Ladybridge and is a family man with a teenage son.
He works for a law firm and also runs his own business. He is passionate about gardening and is a lover of the countryside and wildlife.
He is a keen advocate of community involvement. With the necessary skills, experience and motivation he would be a strong voice for you on Bolton Council.
Salim’s Priorities
There are many issues to tackle in our ward and these are just a few:
- Working with the Police to tackle the problems of speeding and dangerous driving, especially on Armadale Road, Chorley New Road and Devonshire Road
- Work with local schools to tackle drop off and pick up time traffic problems
- Continue tackling the problems of fly tipping and litter on unadopted back streets and ginnels
- Make sure that any new developments don’t swallow up precious green spaces and really do benefit the community
- Championing tree planting on council owned land to keep Heaton, Lostock and Chew Moor, clean, green and healthy
- Ensure that The Middlebrook Trail, the ward’s “green lungs”, is maintained and improved, especially at the Queen’s Park end
- Hold regular advice surgeries to listen to residents and act on your concerns
Improving Public Transport
Thanks to the Labour Government and Greater Manchester’s Andy Burnham we have seen:
- The railways returned to public ownership
- Greater Manchester’s buses (and soon trains) under public control
- Services expanded and improved
- Fares frozen and no single bus journey more than £2
- Reduced restrictions on the use of concessionary passes
We want to improve public transport in Bolton still further and will work hard to do so.
Improving Our Environment
For the first time, Bolton’s Labour led Council has appointed a Cabinet Member with responsibility for the environment. So far there have been a number of initiatives:
- Over £1 million from the Government’s “Pride of Place” funding spent on our parks
- Big improvements in Queens Park and CCTV coming soon for better safety and security
- Street cleaning and litter picking improved with the appointment of additional operatives
- Unadopted ginnels and backstreets, such as those off Tudor Avenue, prioritised
- Big improvements and tidying up of the borough’s cemeteries, especially Overdale
- Our recycling rate of almost 50% is well above the national average and continuing to improve
- Bolton Food and Drink Festival named the country’s Best Large Speciality Market at the NABMA Great British Market Awards
There’s a lot more to do but we are determined to make our town a place that people are proud to live in.
Improving Our Roads
14 years of Conservative Government’s cuts to Bolton Council’s budget have left our roads in a poor state.
But Labour is turning this around. Last year £7.5 million was allocated to a resurfacing programme – fixing roads properly instead of just filling potholes with Tudor Avenue and Chorley New Road the first in our ward to be completed.
To tackle dangerous driving, average speed cameras are being introduced on the stretch of Chorley New Road to Bolton School.
So much more needs to be done including resurfacing of Armadale Road and better speed controls on Ladybridge, Wigan Road and other streets such as Devonshire Road.
Nationally, Labour has invested £1.6 billion to repair roads and tackle potholes. I’m committed to making sure that Heaton, Lostock & Chew Moor gets its fair share so that our roads are safer, smoother and built to last.j
My Pledge to You
We all see the effects that 14 years of Government cuts have had on Bolton and from which we are now emerging. But I am proud that Bolton’s Labour led Council has concentrated on helping the most-needy amongst us – our children, especially those “at risk”, vulnerable adults, the poor, the elderly, carers and services to the housebound. If elected I will do my utmost to diligently serve the whole of the community regardless of individual’s political views or if you even hate politics and politicians altogether! I hope that on May 7th you’ll consider supporting me so that I can serve on your behalf.j
